

Chuck's Fish will sponsor the premiere of the “Rock Doc” film series, Monterey Pop, opening at the Bama Theatre on April 10 & 11, 2009. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. The Bama Theatre is located at 600 Greensboro Avenue in downtown Tuscaloosa .
This screening will be via the Criterion Collection Director's Cut 3-disc DVD featuring remixed S.I. Dolby sound. At the conclusion of the original film each night, there will be a brief intermission followed by the screening of extra footage included on disc 2 (Jimi Hendrix and Otis Redding) on April 10 and Disc 3 (Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, etc.) on April 11.

This documentary film from director D.A. Pennebaker features live performances, behind-the-scenes and audience footage, and other selections from the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, which was considered to be the forerunner to Woodstock. The concert was organized by Alan Pariser, an L.A. rock scenester; John Philips, singer for the Mamas and the Papas; and Lou Adler, a record producer; along with a board of musicians such as Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Donovan, Brian Wilson, and Smokey Robinson. Performers include Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, the Who, Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds, Otis Redding, Ravi Shankar, and Buffalo Springfield.
