The Arts Council will host the 2008 Visual Arts Achievement Awards exhibit at the Bama Theatre's Junior League Gallery. The exhibit will open with a reception honoring the students, parents, and teachers on March 6 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. during the Artrageous Arts Tour. Displayed through March 21, the exhibit will consist of the winners, judge's choice awards, and honorable mentions awarded to students in grades 6-12 from local schools. Categories include drawing, painting, mixed-media, 3-D/sculpture, printmaking, computer design, and photography. The competition was judged by local artist and educator Ann Foster.
The Junior League Gallery is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and admission is free. Enter the gallery through the Arts Council offices, located in the PARA Building, adjacent to the Bama Theatre. The gallery is also open during Bama Theatre events. A program of the Alabama State Council on the Arts , the Visual Arts Achievement Program provides local and state recognition for achievements in visual arts on the middle and high school levels. The program is designed to offer encouragement to young artists, showcase their work, and provide opportunities for advanced training beyond high school. Winning works from each district will be exhibited in ASCA's professional artist gallery April 1 – 25, 2008.
